Who are you?

I was talking to Joel and Pearl and I asked them a very mind-boggling question though it is a very easy and fundamental question.

Who are you? Who are you exactly?

Try answering that.

haha.. the only explanation i can give now is "non-self".

It is closely linked to "impermanence", meaning nothing is permanent, everything is changing.

so sometimes "you" have certain characteristics and emotions, and sometimes "you" have a totally different set of characteristics and emotions. There may also come a time when "you" revert back to the original "you", if there is one.=)

non-self, from what i uds till now, is that we are characterised by many different factors. One of them comes mainly from the interactions/relationships with others.

So under different situations or when you are with different people, you are a different "you", not totally the same "you" will exist all the time.

HehX2... This may not be a complete answer to your question but these are things from which you can ponder about "who are you?" =)

Pretty good answer from the teaching of Buddhism. Practically, the answer of non-self is all encompassing just like what the heart sutra.

'Form is not emptiness and emptiness is not form. Yet form is emptiness and emptiness is form.'

Because of the fact that it is impermanent, you can't really define it can you?

So for convienence sake, we have some symbols attached to us such as son, student, friends and even our own name is just a symbol. That is 'ME' represented with a symbol. But the definition of 'who you are exactly' is non-existent.

who am i? Good question. Christian perspective

I am the child of the Lord most high. I am the one that God love so much that his send his beloved son to die for me at the cross to wash away my sins. So i can stand infront of God cleansed with the blood of Jesus.

My characteristics. Everyone is specially crafted by God created in God's image and as whoever who believes in him grows to yearn to be more like Jesus.

Who am i? Thats my identity in this world given by knowing Christ. But yet discovering and learning more abt myself thru reading the word of God.

Who am i? I believe not everyone can know who they really are. Much less what they are capable of. Social structures change can show the depth of man. But we can identitfy ourselves with something as shown religion plays this role as a social institution.

Who are you. When you can finally find an answer to the void in the heart. You have found who you are.
